Lodovico Antinori is best known for his former association with Ornellaia, the singular example of a Super Tuscan red. His Sauvignon Blanc, Poggio alle Gazze, has met equal success and is now considered one of Italy’s finest whites. After struggling to meet an ever-growing demand, Lodovico began looking outside of Italy for potential sites from which to produce a different, but equally seminal Sauvignon Blanc. In 2003, he and his brother Piero Antinori purchased a portion of the Meadowbank vineyard and the following year, produced their first vintage of Mount Nelson.
