A. Margaine Champagne le Brut
| Vinous 91 points (Jan 2015)
(92% Chardonnay and 8% Pinot Noir; 8 g/l dosage; disgorged in July, 2014): Bright straw. Vibrant lemon and lime scents, along with suggestions of chamomile, tarragon and chalky minerals. Dry and spicy on the palate, offering bitter lemon pith and green apple flavors and a deeper suggestion of sweet butter. The spicy quality builds on the finish, which hangs on with very good tenacity and suave florality. This Champagne is roughly 50% wine from 2011, with the rest from 2010, 2009, 2008, 2006 and 2002.
Wine Spectator 90 points (Jun 15 2014)
Lightly juicy and open-knit, this balanced Champagne offers subtle flavors of Gala apple, biscuit and crunchy pear, with hints of ground anise and graphite. Disgorged July 2013. Drink now.
Wine Advocate 87 points (Nov 2014)
Made from 92% Chardonnay and 8% of Pinot Noir, the Le Brut Premier Cru (disgorged in 2012) attracts with a very clear, fresh, elegant and delicately fruity bouquet. Medium-bodied, clear and very elegant on the palate, this is refined and stimulating, well-structured Champagne with a good aging potential. Very good indeed.
|Wine maker notes
|Always a complex assemblage: 35% 2003, and 65% of these vintages in roughly equal proportions: ‘02, ‘01, ‘00, ‘99 and ‘96! Disgorged 1/06 and bottled with 7g.l. RS; violet and hyacinth aromas make you think of Riesling (as these wines often do), but the palate is all apples and Rainier cherries with a chalk-powder sprinkle; wonderfully silky and generous, refined and accurate. A virtual Blanc de Blancs; 90% Chardonnay to 10% Pinot Noir.
