Quinta Do Noval Porto Vintage 2011

Quinta Do Noval Porto Vintage 500ml 2011
Sku: 30143

As one of the oldest port houses, Quinta do Noval is unique in that most of the ports are made from estate-grown fruit and, notably, all of the vintage Noval wines are from the single Quinta do Noval vineyard. As Robert Parker writes in his 2005 book, The World’s Greatest Wine Estates: ”Quinta do Noval is unusual among the great traditional Port houses in that it emphasizes the importance of the vineyard. The aim is to produce classic Vintage Ports that are harmonious and elegant expressions of Quinta do Noval’s terroir. Strict selection in the vineyard, low yields, and strict selection again in the tasting room result in a small production.

Tasting notes
Intensely powerful and concentrated, these ports are perfectly adapted to age in bottle, and will mature gracefully over decades.

The 2011 Quinta do Noval Vintage has a very intense, very refined bouquet with quite broody black fruit, briary, smoke and mineral. This is very fresh, similar to the barrel sample last April. The palate is silky smooth on the entry with well-judged acidity. This is utterly harmonious and refined, effortless even, with a pure blackberry and lightly spiced finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is an outstanding Noval that is only surpassed by the 2000, a Noval that does not deserve to be over-shadowed by its Nacional sibling. Drink 2018-2040. Tasted January 2014.

Vibrant, with luscious yet elegant mineral-infused flavors of dark currant, ripe cherry, green fig and raspberry. Shows ample pepper notes, with the tannins offering plenty of muscle and grip on the long, silky finish. Complex and restrained. Best from 2022 through 2047. 800 cases imported. ľKM

A powerful, concentrated wine, full of dark tannins, ripe fruit and rich texture. This is a wine based on a solid structure-very firm in character while still allowing the gorgeous fruits to express themselves. It’s obviously destined for long-term aging. - Cellar Selection

Produced exclusively from selected plots at the Quinta, and only declared in exceptional years. Touriga Nacional (60%), Touriga Francesca (30%), and Tinta Cao (10%) are the grape varieties. The wine was aged for 18 months in large neutral oak barrels.
