Wine maker notes

A fine Mosel wine, there is quite a story behind the Zeller Schwarz Katz. Long ago, four wine merchants of Aachen had a tasting at an estate in Moselle. They had to select the best of three barrels but could not decide. The party grew louder as everybody tasted just once more. Suddenly, the wine growers cat mewed, jumped up, sat on the barrel, humped its back and clawed at everybody that tried to approach. Finally, the merchants agreed and bought the wine, which was strongly defended by the cat. They knew in their hearts that this was the best, and named the wine after the event: Zeller Schwarze Katz, or “Zeller’s Black Cat.” Zeller Schwarze Katz is an ideal wine as a social drink or aperitif. We suggest pairing with light meat, lighter freshwater fish, such as shrimp, or Jarlsberg, the famous Norwegian cheese, which is mild and nutty with a slight hint of sweetness.
