Travaglini Gattinara 2010

Travaglini Gattinara 750ml 2010
Sku: 9924

Grapes are grown in Piedmont’s Gattinara D.O.C.G., in vineyards planted on steep slopes at an elevation of 900 – 1,300 feet. The soil is rich in iron and trace quantities of carbonate, calcium and magnesium. These unique soils combine with an ideal microclimate to yield high quality nebbiolo grapes

Tasting notes
a deep pomegranate red wine; medium-bodied wine shows good depth in its red fruit. Soft silky tannins, with a good structure and intense mineral fragrance

 Vinous 90 points (Jul 2015)
The 2010 Gattinara is a firm, classically austere wine with persistent tannins and a slightly compact personality. It will be interesting to see if the 2010 puts on weight in bottle, or if the tannins soften, as today, the wine is very much shut down. Sweet dried cherries, tobacco, crushed herbs and dried flowers add shades of nuance through the middle and finish. I have seen Travaglini wines blossom with age before, although I don’t really see that happening here.

Wine maker notes
Following traditional red fermentation, the wine is aged for one year in French oak barriques, followed by18 months in Slovenian oak casks and six months in bottle

Food pairing
Outstanding with red meat, game and hard cheeses
