Harry’s began its single barrel whiskey program in January 2015 and we have developed quite a following over the years as customers have come to appreciate our ability to source both well-known, in-demand brands and diamonds in the rough. We have always found that the most enjoyable part of the barrel selection process, and in fact, the part of the process that separates our program from others, is the collaborative effort among individuals who share a love for great whiskey, but who each bring their own unique perspective to the tasting process.  From time to time, we have been known to include a customer or friend of the store whose palate we respect to help us select that perfect sample.  This year, the year of Harry’s 80th anniversary, we have decided to formalize this collaborative process with our “Cooperage Collaboration” series.

Over the course of this year, we will collaborate with a variety of individuals, groups and institutions who have a similar interest in great whiskey to select barrels for our program.  Beyond providing more diverse tastes to help us zero in on just the right selection, we believe that this collaborative process will help us to reunite with people from differing backgrounds and spread feelings of positivity as our nation and, more specifically, our community continue to work towards recovery from a very challenging year.

For our first Cooperage Collaboration offering, we have partnered with Shawn Gold of Coexist Galleries on a barrel from Elijah Craig.  Shawn, a former Navy officer, is an artist who specializes in glass art  and the name of his gallery tells you everything you need to know about his belief in unity and collaboration.  One of the Gallery’s most successful efforts at collaboration is the “Melt” where artists of various disciplines utilize a common glass melt to create jewelry, blown glass or other collectibles. 

Shawn is one of the great collectors of all thing’s spirits.  He has an extensive collection, but gravitates toward whiskey. We originally met Shawn a number of years ago when he stopped by to see us after a local melt.  At the time he donated to our Operation Hope fundraiser and we have been in touch ever since trying to find the right opportunity to collaborate.
