Followers of our program may have noticed that we have not offered a Buffalo Trace single barrel since 2016. In fact, it has been so long since we purchased a barrel from Buffalo Trace that our account must have been re-set because this barrel (our 2nd) says Barrel #1. The truth is that despite tasting samples from Buffalo Trace every year, we hadn’t found one that met our standards.

As we sat down to taste the most recent samples, we once again were not overly optimistic that we would find one that met our expectations. In fact, we had resigned ourselves to the eventuality that we would end up purchasing the best of the samples that we tasted, but that we would not promote the barrel as a Harry's single barrel.  That was before we actually tasted the samples.

The first couple samples were “fine” and exactly the type of barrels we had been passing on the past few years. But this little beauty got our attention immediately.  We found ourselves talking about components and mouthfeel, we commented on the nose “simple yes, but engaging, interesting” There was an attack, a mid-palate and a finish. It had balance.  After his second sip Renzo looked up from his glass and simply said, “This is the best Buffalo Trace I’ve ever tasted” and the rest is history.

Here is how the single barrel offering will work:

We expect this barrel to sell out very quickly so we recommend that, if you haven't already, set up an account on our website (including your Credit card to speed up your check out). Tomorrow, Friday 6/18 at 9:30pm the links below will go live and you will be able to buy your bottle. There is a one bottle maximum for this barrel and it will be first come first serve. Our last two barrels sold out in a combined 10 minutes so you will want to be ready to go right at 9:30pm.

One more note: If you follow us on social media please check in on our page(s) at 9:00pm for information about our rare bottle release happening Saturday morning beginning at 8:00am. There will be more than 100 bottles available for sale and will consist of library releases, hard to find annual distillery releases, along with a few "more common", but not readily available bottlings.

As always we thank you for your interest in our whiskey program!
