Happy Memorial Day!

This month's newsletter includes summer wine recommendations from Scotty and Michelle, a non-alcoholic beer pick from Renzo and a heads up on our Father's Day single barrel bourbon release for our whiskey enthusiasts.

For Memorial Day weekend, we will be open during our regular hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but we will be closed on Monday.

We wish you and your family an enjoyable and safe Memorial Day Weekend!

Christina Zweigelt Rose

Christina Netzl and her family have been living on and farming this picturesque farm (which includes much more than just grapevines) since 1650! After studying enology and developing a fascination for soil conditions and microbiology, she decided to convert the family operation to organic farming in 2013. The wines she makes today are all hand-harvested, naturally fermented, and bottled with no additives except a tiny amount of sulfur as a preservative. This relatively dark rose is made of 100% Zweigelt and is just bursting with notes of fresh berry and pomegranate. Dry, lip-smacking, and a touch savory on the finish, this will be a perfect rose to span the seasons and a great pairing for salmon dishes and grilled shrimp. -Michelle DeWyngaert

2016 Grosjean Fumin Vigne Merletta

Native to the Vallee d’Aoste along the French-Italian alpine border, Fumin is prized by local vintners for its deep color and intense wild berry flavor. The Grosjean family traces its roots back to the village of Fornet in the high mountain passes of the Valle d’Aosta known as Valgrisenche. The vineyard enjoys one of the most breathtaking vistas in the region. On a clear day, you can stand in the vines and observe a panorama spanning from Mont Blanc to the north, all the way to Piedmont in the south. It’s the most age-worthy red off the Grosjean estate, and one of the most accessible out of the gate. The “Vigna Merletta” boasts an alluring dark as night purple-ruby hue that leads in a mélange of black and blue fruit seasoned with alpine herbs, licorice, and Burgundian like spice.  It is a richly textured and layered effort with ample fine grain tannins on the back end to keep the package angular and focused. Full flavored and yet delicate at the same time, the Vigna Merletta is a truly unique wine that transports you to one of the most breathtaking wine regions in the world.

Wines from this region are some of my favorite wines to pair with food.  This particular wine pairs great with lean sausage, game, salumi and cheeses, mushroom risotto and veal.  Heck, have it with a bacon cheeseburger.  As in Piedmonte, the 2016 vintage for this region is outstanding. Only tiny amounts of this wine were produced, so give it a try whilst it is still available and come tell us what you think. Biodynamic certified. -Scotty Tiberi

Stadlmann Rotgipfler

With the weather finally warm enough for drinks on the patio and afternoons by the pool, summer brings a whole slew of fun, refreshing wine options! While we love rosés here at Harry’s, we also have a delicious new Austrian white from Stadlmann. This estate has been around for centuries, with winemaking recorded here as early as 1780 and remains in the hands of the Stadlmann family to this day. The vineyards are certified organic farming and the winemaking is low-intervention. This bottling is made from the native Austrian grape, Rotgipfler. While Gruner Veltliner gets all the fame in Austria, this variety makes a similarly refreshing, though slightly fleshier and more rounded wine. Notes of ripe peach, peach blossom, and white tea on the nose, with salted peach and cantaloupe on the palate. A great pairing for a range of lighter dishes, but perfectly thirst-quenching on its own! -Michelle DeWyngaert
